Pill Identifier — identify a pill by its imprint

Type the letters and numbers stamped on a tablet or capsule and match them against 3,826 FDA label records. A match means the pill matches the FDA label for that medicine — always confirm with a pharmacist before relying on it.

How it works

  1. Find the imprint. Look at both sides of the pill under a good light — the code may be split across the two sides. Our guide on reading a pill imprint helps with hard-to-read characters.
  2. Search. Enter the code above; add the colour and shape if you want to narrow the results. The search runs entirely in your browser.
  3. Compare everything. Check the imprint, colour, shape, size and score against your pill. If anything differs, treat the pill as unidentified.

Stay safe

  • Never take a pill you cannot identify with certainty.
  • A pill with no imprint cannot be identified online.
  • Found a loose pill? Secure it away from children and pets first.
  • Someone may have swallowed an unknown pill? Call Poison Control (US): 1-800-222-1222 now — do not wait for symptoms.
